Microsoft to kill Project Astoria. Darn.

Saw this today on my Register newsfeed. So the idea of being able to run Android apps on Windows 10 has been killed off. I thought it was a good idea and a further expansion of scale for the Android market to compete with Apple, but was obviously poison for Windows Apps developers so Microsoft have bowed to pressure.

But it would have meant that I could have access to all my Android Apps (and the investment I've made in them) on Windows, rather than work with the native Windows Store apps - which to be honest I don't use at all as I find they are almost always inferior to the Android ones or just playing catch-up with the Android versions and features.

Glad the article referenced OS/2 - I was a big "OS/2 Warp" (all sounds a bit Trekkie now) fan back in the day. The parallels with OS/2 have not been lost on Microsoft - IBM's "a better DOS than DOS and a better Windows than Windows" strategy didn't really pay off for them, did it?
